I know I shouldn’t let it bother me but it does. Robotnik as EGGMAN! GAH!! I hate that so much. My first of only two complaints is the worst of them all. You gotta remember the UFO’s path, all the while avoiding spikies and holes. You collect rings that act as time and blue balls get your speed up. As of this writing, I’ve only gotten four and that is with Tails. These you have chase down a UFO to get a Chaos Emerald. Big rings are hidden throughout zones (ala S3&K). You collect special coins that unlock various bonus. Hit a check point with 25 or more rings and you’re off to collect blue balls! Some old stages return and there are a lot more added.
The collect the blue spheres bonus stages return. A downward spin you can perform in the air. Mania plays exactly like those but Sonic does have one new move. If you played Sonic 1,2,3 or Knuckles then you know how this plays. Just be sure to explore and pay attention to the details. Mania is one of those games that has so much references and nods to some of Sega’s other Genesis games that it is a lot to take in. The second act’s music is usually more of a remix, but great nonetheless. There are a lot of levels from previous Sonic games so as expected, there is music from those respected levels that return. As I played earlier, I didn’t realize how loud I had the volume. You’ll find no goofy story full of dumb characters you’ll soon forget about here. Mania was made from various Sonic fans from respectable fan made Sonic games, so this is really a game made for us, by fans. Something we early Sonic fans have clamored for years about that Sega just couldn’t get right themselves. Feels and plays just like the Genesis games as well. It also looks just like the Genesis games. Nice and colorful, what you would expect from a Sonic game. Everything about the game is perfect to me minus a few nitpicks, but I’ll get onto those shortly.įirst off the game is gorgeous. It has been the only game I’ve played since it’s PC release of August 29th. I had a grin on my face when I first played through it. The instant I started playing Sonic Mania I was transported back to my childhood. You may have even seen this post, but if not here it so you can read about my Sonic beginnings. If you follow me anywhere online you know I’m a fan of the Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog games.
